On a typical day 60 million American adults are using search engines to search what they are looking for. Just imagine if at least 100 of those people are looking for the product or service your company offers. Chances are that if your link appears on the first page of their Google search, they will click on it. That means you have roughly 36,500 new leads every year.

The key to getting this amount of traffic to your website is through search engine optimization (SEO). This starts from the design stages of the website: the code, layout, and presentation. Based on keywords and understanding search algorithms, you can build your website to show up near the front of the search results. Remember that it is easier to create a site based on search engines than to change an existing site to be search engine optimized. In addition keeping your target market in mind when you are optimizing your site is very important. Think of how your prospects would think when they are searching for your product or service, and then implement that into your website code.

It is nearly impossible for prospects to find your website when searching if your entire site is full of bulleted information of irrelevant terms. For example, if advertising for a Boston disc jockey company targeting high schools, using the terms "Prom Entertainment Boston, Disc Jockeys, DJ, High School Dance, Semi-Formal, etc" are key to maximizing your leads. The terms, "Wedding DJ, Corporate DJ, Mitzvah Entertainment, etc" are not useful. You want the most number of relative terms to your product or service within your website code and content.

The phone book is dying fast, and companies need to find other ways to advertise to create new business. SEO is the way to go because there are usually no additional costs in adding terms and content to your website. By creating a website that is search engine optimized, you will increase the amount of leads and thus sales your company makes.
